Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 - Masquerade

Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 - Masquerade

What is this!

Mr. Mendes is masquerading around as different bands. Myself--having been mesmerized by the sounds of his album Quiet Nights--not knowing much about the guy, picked up Masquerade not really knowing what to expect. What I do grasp is that this is an album of cover-songs. Tracklist and alternative download can be found here.

King De Doga & His Super Sound of Africa - Rapu Nwa Agbochobia Ka Onuodi

Very nice and upbeat Igbo Highlife album by King De Doga. By the way he dresses I can assume he enjoys the perks of the glamorous, kingly lifestyle of being an Nigerian highlife musician. Hope you like. Keeping looking for more posts in the near future.

Sipho Mabuse - Chant of the Marching

Sipho gives me such a good feeling I decided to post another of his works. This LP is solid all the way through, great dance tracks, great production. Being released in 1989 and given Sipho's South African ties, it is heavy with anti-apartheid tones. Excellent album.

I always recommend Sipho to fans of Paul Simon's Graceland. I am not sure how he contributed to the album but Sipho Mabuse is granted a "Special Thanks" credit on Graceland.

Sipho Hot Stix Mabuse - Burn Out 12" 1984

This is very different from my previous posts because this is dance album.  Sipho Mabuse hails from Johannesburg, South Africa. "Jive Soweto" (Face B 02) was the first song I heard which is featured on the album Jive Soweto: The Indestructible Beat of Soweto Vol. 4 which is part of a great Mbaqanga music series I will be posting in the future. Otherwise, this 4-track album features great dance songs that I know you will surely love.

Also features the great Steve Kekana on ad lib vocals on Burn Out (Face A 01).
